New Friends and Old at the Greenbelt Jazz Festival

Hey!!! We all know the DMV has tons of avenues for live music and music festivals. One of the most tasteful and elegant festivals is the one that takes place in Greenbelt, MD, each year. If you were not aware of it, Greenbelt is notable for being the first and the largest of the three experimental and controversial New Deal Greenbelt Towns, planned and built by the Federal government of the United States, started in 1935.

Anyway, at the start of the Summer, Greenbelt holds a super cool jazz festival in the local town square. This all-day event is really something to see and it's definitely worth a visit if you happen to live anywhere in the DMV area. It's also a beautiful way to show up and support local musicians who are striving to provide the best music possible. Some things to take note of are:

  • the people: Greenbelt residents, also known as Greenbelters, are the coolest, some of the most thoughtful, and most laid back folks you'll ever encounter. You'll see they generally have an appreciation for all types of music.

  • the music: Speaking of music, you'll hear some of the old standards along with a number of original tunes from local artists. The musicianship is also "on point" for the entire session.

  • the vibe: It's difficult to explain "vibe" but it just seems like everyone in attendance wants and needs to be there to be a part of the festival. From the stage to the last row, the music vibe is prevalent throughout. You'll know it when you hear it!

Be sure to check it out if you get a chance next year and enjoy a few pictures from the 2022 Greenbelt Jazz Festival.
